Video
Tape and Master Control - The Video Tape Operator is responsible
for all of the videotapes played and recorded for the newscast.
The Master Control
Operator is a studio engineer, and is responsible for the
video and audio levels being broadcast. He/she also assists the
Video Tape Operator.
The equipment operators
use will vary on which market they work in and how much money the
station has to spend. The Beta SP Camera systems and 3/4 U-matic
systems are the mainstays of most stations for their photographers.

As
with camera operators the tape operator's world is slowly moving
towards the digital end of the spectrum.
The
Video Tape Operator's responsibility is to insure that all the tapes
are present and in sequential order for playback, and also to provide
a rundown to the Production Director that indicates what video deck
the tape will be played back on.
The Videotape Operator
also will start the Air-Check Tape, which is a recording of the
telecast.
