Arnold S. Wolfe, Ph. D.

Dr. Wolfe is an associate professor in his ninth year at Illinois State University.

Research Interests:
His research interests embrace mass media theory and criticism with an emphasis on feminist d semiotic approaches. He has published articles on film and television semiotics, the world of the television critic, theories of the mass media audience, and on the effects of foreign takeovers on freedom of expression in the film industry.

Dr. Wolfe is further pursuing study into issues of visual literacy in a presentation which deconstructs the coverage of the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion. He has also begun a line of research attempting to explain the enduring popularity of the popular music of the 1960s.

Teaching Interests:
He teaches media criticism, media law, and cultural studies approaches to media effects. The Department and the College of Arts and Sciences have approved his proposal for a graduate seminar in Critical Studies in Mass Communication.
