Research
Interests:
Dr. O'Sullivan's research interests are in macro (social) and micro (relational)
implications of mediated communication. He melds his background in mass
communication and interpersonal communication into a research program
concerned with theory development and practical issues surrounding the
use of various communication technologies (new and old).
Past and
current research topics include: new technologies and interpersonal, relational,
political, and health communication. Dr. O'Sullivan also has a background
in communication law and policy with a special interest in the legal and
political implications of new technologies. He uses primarily quantitative
methods but also uses some qualitative methods.

Teaching
Interests:
Dr. O'Sullivan's teaching assignments include undergraduate courses in
the social aspects of communication technologies and communication law
and policy, as well as graduate seminars in theoretical approaches to
the social dynamics of communication technologies. He also has taught
courses in interpersonal communication health communication, mass media
effects, and broadcast law and policy courses.
