John F. Cragan, Ph.D.

Dr. Cragan is a full professor and has been with the department for over 25 years.

Research Interests:
His research interests include small group communication, applied communication, and communication theory. He has published over 20 books and book chapters as well as over 40 articles. Most recently he has published a comprehensive communication theory book with longstanding co-author Don Shields, Understanding Communication Theory, Communicative Forces for Human Action. He has also co-authored books with colleague Dr. Wright in Small Group Communication.

Dr. Cragan has served on numerous committees, many using Symbolic Convergence Theory, focusing on small group processes, as well as applied communication studies.

His teaching interests parallel his research interests, teaching Pro-Seminar, Theory and Research in Small Group, as well as teaching the Applied Communication Course.
